A mother’s 11 year old daughter had lost her $10,000 worth communication device, she didn’t want to just sit there and not do anything about it. After all, it was worth $10,000! Patty Mulligan, the mother, decided to look for it and so she hung several posters in the hopes that the communication device would be returned to them.
Her daughter had left the device accidentally in Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose on Thanksgiving Day. Patty Mulligan searched for it on craigslist but at first didn’t get anything.
Then, on Wednesday, she searched over the site again and saw an ad for a DynaVox that sells for $3,500. She read the ad closely and thought it was a lot like the device of her daughter that was specially programmed for her.
She then immediately called up the seller. She was asking him a lot of questions as if she doesn’t have a hunch that it was her daughter’s. The seller then said that he bought the device from a locker sale. She then set up a meeting with him on a flea market and that morning she called up the police and detectives to meet up with the seller. The serial number of the device matched and this confirmed the mother’s suspicion that it was indeed her daughter’s device. The seller, James Durr, was taken into custody with other warrants and the police had forwarded his case to Santa Clara for a possible felony charge.
The seller was riding his bike when he saw the laptop computer in its bag and took it then did a research on what it was and how much it was worth then he decided to sell it.
