Cubans deprived of free market sites?

revolicoCuba is a communist island and it was just recently that they got a taste of freedom through free market from the popular website that is similar to Craigslist. Unfortunately, the communist island had blocked the site from being accessed in Cuba.

The said site is Revolico.com and Cubans noticed lately that when they enter the site, they get redirected to Google. When they search for the name through Google and click on the link, they still get redirected back.

Computer experts in Cuba said that there is a content filter that is used to prevent the access to the site Revolico.com. The site became very popular, with millions of page views every month and in an island with the economy being tightly controlled, this raised an eyebrow to their government. The consumer goods in Cuba are quite expensive and with the free market around, they can no longer control the price and cheaper rates would become available.

Revolico.com allows Cubans to buy and sell items that are not controlled by the monopoly of their government. Whether or not the government is blocking the site is still unclear and unproven but it was reported that in the past, the authorities of Cuba had sent out reports of prohibit access to the said site.

Though the site is being blocked, people can still find a way to bypass the filter and tips on how to bypass the filter circulates via email to Cubans.

Tickets for Michael Jackson’s memorial were being posted on craigslist as well as ebay

michael-jacksonMichael Jackson’s memorial service was a success as it celebrated the life of the man that the world had loved for his very memorable songs.Free tickets had been given to a chosen few to attend the service for Michael Jackson in the Staples Center in Los Angeles but there are offers for the tickets but not as free tickets but are being sold at high prices.

The AEG Live produces had looked for ways to avoid counterfeits and scalping of tickets but people in desperate need can find loopholes with it. If you had won a ticket for Michael Jackson’s memorial, you would be given 2 wrist bands which you should use one of the wristbands upon receiving the tickets but the 2nd one can be flipped easily.

People had aggressively bid for the passes that even rose up to $15,000. People had been warned though especially with those people who are claiming that they are selling their e-mail confirmation code which is not possible as your e-mail code should be presented together with a valid id to match therefore rendering it non-transferable.

Another funny thing about this is that even the rejection e-mails are selling well too. And it starts its price for $2.99 for the email saying that they did not get the tickets for the great event.

There were only 17,500 available tickets that were given away where a total of 1.5 million fans of Michael Jackson had registered in the hopes that they’d be fortunate enough to win a ticket for the event. As expected, many people without tickets still came in the hopes that they could enter.

It’s a great way to pay for those monthly expenses and you could experience different types of jobs even for a short period of time. Many have done it and there are still a lot of these types of short-term jobs posted on the Gigs section of Craigslist as well as on some other sites.

Paying to find a job?

With the world economy going to a sudden rockslide, thousands of people have lost their jobs. You can’t blame the company for suddenly firing you because they are all experiencing the pain of our economy and hundreds of companies are now going bankrupt. What’s a father to do in this crisis? With no money coming in and day to day expenses are piling, it’s no wonder why some people go frantic over the situation and think of different means to get away from being jobless.

Take for instance, Jimmy Cybulski. He placed an ad on Craigslist looking for a job but it’s not any ordinary jobseeker’s ad on Craigslist. He is in fact willing to pay $500 to anybody who could find him a job. $500 is not much considering how any job right now could practically save him thousands of dollars of daily expenses for month’s ahead. Now, don’t you just think things are turning for the worse? People are getting more and more desperate!

Ads seeking for homeowners are sprouting

With our bad economy where mortgages are soaring, many homeowners are looking for some renters just so they could pay off their bills. Plus, with many people losing their jobs, they can not pay off their mortgages and bills any longer which is why they seek for renters to occupy a portion of their house.

In Craigslist alone, the roommate posting has already increased nationally to about 70% making it at 476045 this January compared to just 279389 for January of last year.

It’s a win-win situation both for the renters and the homeowners. Those who can’t afford to rent their own house can just occupy a room and they pay less than what they would pay for an entire apartment or house. Homeowners would get a breather too and they can pay off their debts or at least go by during this very dark time.

Mortgages, electricity bills, water bills and many other monthly bills can definitely take its toll on anyone right now especially those who is one of the millions of Americans who already lost their jobs. At this time of trial, people are trying to make do with what they can afford. In Craigslist, many ads are posted for homeowners seeking for roommates and this will continue until everything stables down again.

Many People are seeking help online

With the recession and mass laying off of employees, there are many people who ended up asking for help from other people even if it means asking for a few dollars from them just so they could keep their house or feed their families.

This is what’s going on to several websites such as eBay and Craigslist where many people post their ads asking for some money from fellow posters. In Craigslist you can find an ad with messages asking for help because they’ve just recently been laid off from their jobs. Susan MacTavish, a Craigslist spokeswoman, said that there had been a significant increase on ads posted in the last 6 months with this message.

Although these ads are most likely sincere, there are still some ads that are posted by scammers so before you offer some form of help, make sure you are not dealing with a scammer. Deal locally so you could meet personally before you give the money.

It comes as no surprise now to see these kinds of ads, people are becoming more desperate since the world is suffering from a great crisis.
