In the event that you would have a Craigslist transaction for gift cards, you should realize that sellers can just hold the activation code of the card and then drain the balance without even notifying you. So, just in case you want to deal with a seller for gift cards, the best thing you can do is contact the seller and go to the store with him or her then have the card balance checked while the seller is there. Then, when the gift card’s balance has been verified, you should ask the store for a re-issuance of the gift card then that’s the time you should pay the seller. This would mean that the seller have no chance of holding the card’s activation code anymore.
But, is it really worth making transactions with gift cards? If you are selling an item and the buyer wants to trade it with a gift card, you can politely just say no. After all, gift cards are usually much less in amount compared to what that particular store is selling. Unless of course you are really fond of that store and you’d purchase items there anyway then you could consider gift cards. If not, shut down the idea of gift cards trade.
You have to be cautious about transacting for gift cards. Consider the pros and cons. It’s still much better to get money than a gift card so you won’t have any worries. Plus, you could use the money on any store you want, not just on a particular store.
A lot of people are having financial problems lately but it should not stop us from celebrating Christmas and continuing our tradition of gift giving. We may not have money but for sure we have some stuff hanging around our house that we don’t need. Gina and Richard Lavelle came up with an idea so they could give presents to their for children this Christmas. They turned to Craigslist together with dozens of people like them bartering their goods or services for some gift items for the Christmas season.
Bartering is a good idea as you get good stuff and even new ones through bartering. Lots of Americans are experiencing what this couple is facing too. They’ve lost their jobs and are trying to make ends meet and with the help of Craigslist, they are offering their services for money. They are offering their services for just about anything. She would baby sit; split would or even clean the house. Her husband is a mechanic so he could fix cars too. So far, they are getting some responses to their ad already and getting some cash for it. It’s not as good as getting a job but it will surely be enough for this family to survive the crisis and their kids would still have their Christmas gifts this season.
There is another round of schemes on the internet that are too good to be true and now it’s in the form of a rent to own houses posted on Craigslist and other similar sites. The homes are posted with rates that are lower than their market rates and they claim that you will be taking over their mortgage.
There is this post on Craigslist for a condo unit in Saratoga that is just $350 a month because they said the unit is going to be foreclosed but the tenant of the house could be its owner if they take over its monthly mortgage. They don’t post any further information of the unit; not even an address but they only post an 800 number.
The 800 number is already a red flag. When you call the number, you’d be told that further information is available if you go to a site where you need to sign up for their three day trial. Then, if you want further information from other units, you’ll need to pay an even bigger amount for subscription.
Their style is to lure you by baiting you with a too good to be true ad then will give you further information by signing up for a fee. The more people who got curious, the more money they will earn from new members.
These types of ads have red flags everywhere. First of all, the ads do not give enough details then the rates are much lower than the market rates and lastly, the 800 number is a big red flag. Everyone should be aware and only consider offers from legitimate ads.
There is this online scam for cars where the victims end up losing thousands of their hard-earned money because the scammers are masters and are hard to catch by the police. The modus operandi of the scammers is to sell a stolen car with a fake VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and the unsuspecting buyer would end up receiving a call from DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) and giving their recently bought used car as it will be confiscated.
If you won’t check the car’s VIN then you could be fooled off your hard earned cash so it’s best to do your homework before signing a deal or handing the seller your money. The VIN is found in different location on the car such as the dashboard and even on the titles and insurance policies. You have to double check the VIN to make sure of its validity to see if it’s a fake VIN or not. If it is fake then make sure to call the proper authorities and report the seller so he won’t rip other people off of their money.
If you have a second-hand PC just lying around and gathering dust, you may want to sell it for extra dollars. For sure there are buyers out there who would want to buy your second-hand, outdated PC because they are a little short to buy a new one. You can post your ad on Craigslist but before you sell your old PC, here are just 4 things you need to do first:
- Run a virus scan – there may be viruses on your PC or some malwares and adwares. Make sure you get rid of all of these first before you let the buyer use it.
- Transfer Data - for sure you wouldn’t want the new owner to still have the copy of your data on your PC. Transfer all your data to your new PC.
- Clean the drives – some necessary data may be kept on your hard drives without your knowing. You may have inputted your credit card number on the internet and may have saved some of your passwords so you better delete everything in the drives for your own safety.
- Speed it up – outdated PCs usually would run slow on recent operating systems such as the Windows Vista so better use Vista Services Optimizer or StartUpLite to speed up the startup.
When you do these then you are ready to sell your PC on Craigslist and sell it for a decent price.
In Craigslist you can buy and sell stuff but it’s not like eBay where people could auction for the item. On the good side though is that Craigslist ads are free while in eBay you still need to pay for it.
Keith Teare has come up of a way to use Craigslist with a Google Docs spreadsheet so it could take bids for the item. What he did is he made hyperlinks on his ad directing the interested bidder to click on the link where he will be directed to his Google Docs Spreadsheet that is read only. Here the bidder can see what the highest bid is and what time the bidder made the bid.
At the bottom of his ad he made a form where the bidder could type in the required information such as the name, the amount of bid and the email address. This will then be directed to the spreadsheet but viewers can only see it and not edit it as it’s read-only.
That’s it! Now you can take in bids for your Craigslist ads.
