Two teens were placed in custody while other suspects are still at large. They are connected to the armed robbery where victims have been lured through a Craigslist ad. A couple ages 20 and 21 had been lured to the South Side street when they responded to an ad on Craigslist that offer several iPhones for just $4,000. They agreed to meet up with the seller on South Ashland Ave.
Upon arriving, their car were approached by several men with handguns pointing at them and demands for money. They were not satisfied and they beat up the guy while stealing the lady’s purse and some cash.
The police investigated and found out that another ad for CTA card was also posted on Craigslist with the same contact info as the ad for iPhones. The undercover police transacted with the 17 year old seller and arrested him and charged for 2 counts of robbery with firearms.
Polic investigators advise shoppers on the popular site, Craigslist, that they should insist on meeting with buyers or sellers on a public place and they should bring company to be safer. Make sure you let friends or family know where you are going and who you’ll be meeting as well.
The FTC or the Federal Trade Commision launched their new crackdown for con artists that prey on Americans that are currently in need of jobs.
These con artists would use the job placement and WAH scams to promote their false promises of helping people get jobs in the government as well in movies as extras. Some even offer mystery shopping jobs as well as Work-At-Home jobs.
The Operation Bottom Dollar is FTC’s new operation and they have so far filed 7 cases against these scammers. 43 criminal actions had also been filed by the justice department.
The agency had announced that they are partners with sites such as Bing, Craigslist and Monster.com to help job seekers out there to be aware and recognize which job posts are scams so they can avoid getting victimized. These sites will display the material from FTC on their sites to inform their visitors and raise awareness with the issue.
Steve Norris figured his family would need a cute lap dog so he bought his wife, Marcia, a little Chihuahua for Christmas back in 2007. His wife named the little dog Willy. 3 months later, her husband Steve died of heart attack.
Marcia Norris said that she believes Steve had an intuition and knew that she’d need somebody to get her by and that dog was it. She had a tough time after the death of her husband and so she moved, together with Willy, to Texas from Florida hoping to start fresh.
She found a job and the two moved to a Mesquite apartment on a Sunday. Two days later, she found Willy was let out of his crate. Well, Willy was missing, so is his crate and so was their TV, jewelry, computer and their wedding band. She was robbed but what pained her the most was not with losing her belongings but because Willy was gone too.
She asked for help from the police and animal control. She described her dog has a red collar. It’s the same dog that was spotted in north of Oak Cliff whose pictures were posted through Craigslist. The Mesquite shelter was alerted by somebody who saw the ad and saw the emails circulating from the animal control and Norris was informed about it.
Norris then knew her dog was found and a day later, the two were reunited. Thanks to Craigslist for making it easier to spot ads such as this one that helps reunite people and animals when it could have been a lot harder without.
Kelly Street, a mother and wife from Meridian had posted last January 1 an ad on Craigslist requesting for good Samaritans to give her some clothes for her four kids. Her family relies on the husband’s income and is having a hard time getting by with the day to day expenses and bills.
A week after her posting, she received a single reply and it came from a woman in Pearl offering her help. Kelly Street said that the woman had responded to her ad saying that she also has kids of almost the same age as Kelly’s kids and that she’d be happy to see if she has some clothes to give her. The two ladies talked for hours on the phone and the woman had really lifted the spirit of Kelly Street that she feels like someone truly cared for her and understands what she is going through.
A few days later, they spoke once more and had agreed to meet in a parking lot in Forest’s Wal-Mart. She was expected to receive some clothes from this Good Samaritan but she got so much more than she was expecting.
When she arrived at the parking lot, she was surprised to see not only a few set of clothes but outfit for each of her kids, some warm jackets, toys, books, board games and canned goods plus a purse each for her daughters.
In one of the purse, a check was found and the Streets felt like it wasn’t left there intentionally so they tried to find the Good Samaritan again through Craigslist but found lots of scammers pretending to be the woman. Though, Kelly knows better and she can remember the lady. On February 5th, she found her. Her name is Diamond Dearman.
Dearman confirmed she misplaced the check. With all the exchanges of help and doing what’s right by not keeping the money, the two ladies became friends.
Now that’s a wonderful story to tell the world about.
An ad posted on Craigslist is thought to just be a cruel joke but it may also turn out to be a post of a real-life Cruella. The listing was posted this month where the poster sent out warnings such as “I am hiding dog poison at dog runs“. The post had been flagged and removed but this didn’t pass the eyes of the Parks Department of the city, according to the NY Post. Dog owners were put on notice regarding the Craigslist posting.
Thankfully though, no dog poison incident had yet happen nor are there any evidence of such cases, Parks Department still deployed officers to spot check. They also told the NY Post, that although the post may only be a hoax yet they are still taking it seriously. The department is working with The Department of Health, Animal Care & Control, NYPD and ASPCA regarding the matter.
Do canine owners should be concern about the post? At least they know their Parks Department are not taking anything like a joke and would only realize that it’s real once a victim had already been killed.
For newspapers, classified ads used to be a great revenue source. With the rise of online classified ads side such as Craigslist, this caused a big impact to their industry.
Rick Edmonds noted that the classified ads industry dropped from $10 billion in 2008 to just $6 billion in 2009. Compare that to the $19.6 billion worth it has back in 2000, you can see that it had a really drastic decline in worth. Because of the decline of the revenue from classified ads, it’s safe to say that it’s one cause why the newspaper industry is now suffering from financial troubles.
The newspaper industry is having a hard time competing with Craigslist because there is no way to compete. It’s easier to compete with your competitor who is also charging for the same service they are offering. With Craigslist, they are really not charging anything yet they are taking away the market for classified ads that newspapers desperately need.
Craigslist is a great site that millions of people visit everyday. Their rise made it easier for just about anybody to post an ad but this is devaluing the industry of classified ads. Newspaper should indeed find other ways or sources of revenue in order to survive the Internet generation.
The Vancouver Winter Olympics sure paved the way for more income opportunities to people in Vancouver. In Craigslist, you can surely rake in a lot of results upon searching for Vancouver Olympics listings.
The most popular listing on Craigslist is for accommodations. A lot of Vancouverites are offering their place for visitors to stay in so they could earn a few extra dollars. The Olympic housing options has over a thousand listings starting the 1st of February starting from a $25,000 worth of penthouse to as little as $100 a night stay in a host’s house.
Aside from the accommodations being offered for the Olympics, a lot are also posting for business such as for a hot dog cart and a mini bus. If you are interested, you can buy the hot dog cart and start selling hotdogs during the event or perhaps use the mini bus to offer your transportation service.
There are lots of different postings in the heat of the Olympics in Vancouver. Lots of buyers and sellers go to Craigslist to find what good they can find or sell there. Some posts here are also rants and some really strange shoutouts that the Olympics are some sort of a Nazi tradition being repeated over and over again. Needless to say, these posts are quite entertaining and give you a glimpse of what Vancouverites have in mind.
If there are any desperate Craigslist posts out there, this one would be on top of the list. A fan of the New Orleans Saints really wants to go this year to the Super Bowl, so much that he is even offering his left testicle just to get Super Bowl tickets in return.
In his ad, he wrote “high capacity, O-, well maintained and larger than average, used for 22 years only”. The poster of the ad describes himself as a Caucasian male with blonde hair.
The transaction, as it seems, would only be completed once the game is over. So, if you are interested, you should give him the Super Bowl tickets first before you can get his left testicle. Hmm, now that doesn’t sound so fair now, is it?
Jason Paul is straight out of college and he decided to make a little experiment of living through Craigslist for 9 months. When he was still in college, Jason was already using Craigslist in selling his stuff or looking for an apartment but now, since he is jobless anyway, he decided to go to a social experiment and see where it will lead him.
He started out with nothing more than his car, a bag of clothing and some food staples plus a phone, computer and $2,500. He then relied on everything else from Craigslist such as looking for small jobs, housing, leisure activities and finding friends.
Jason’s experiment led him to different cities and different jobs such working in a restaurant, street canvassing and even as a nanny. All his experiences are documented in his site at http://livingcraigslist.com. Jason said in his interview that he is doing this to find a story of what is possible from Craigslist. If he fails then he can just go back to his parents and get a job. He is planning to make blog books and to pursue publishing so this experiment would be a great start.
Well, so far so good for Jason. It’s an exciting experiment that is making him a well-rounded person with vast experiences and meeting different types of people along the way.
There is this Craigslist post we spotted that looked like a very good start for a movie plot. It can be a romantic comedy that will surely be a nice hit! Here’s the post:
looking for a writer who knows how to impress women
Busy executive is looking for a good writer to send emails on his behalf in “match.com”
From the looks of it you can start thinking that the poster of this ad is an ugly and old man who is in desperate need of a lovely companion yet doesn’t have the romantic side that can impress the ladies to date him. So, he hires a brilliant writer to start impressing the ladies through match.com and here comes a beautiful lady who fell in love with the man who she thought is the person she was sending messages with. Later on she realizes she wasn’t in love with that man but was actually in love with the writer he hired to send him those emails! Too bad, the ugly old man realizes that it’s not the looks that can attract a lady but it’s really his personality and sweetness.
What do you think guys?
