Wanna help out a turkey?

A turkey is in need of your help and it needs $2,600 for surgery. Can you help out? That’s what a woman from Massachusetts is crying out for through her ad on Craigslist. You see, the woman and her husband are animal lovers and they help rescue unwanted animals or animals that have some kind of health problems.

What a perfect time for such an ad when many turkeys are being killed for thanksgiving dinner and here she is wanting to rescue one turkey so it could feed itself on its own and be with his lover Penelope, the female turkey at their home. The turkey’s name is Jerry and he has cataracts. He’s a 3 year old turkey that was adopted by the couple from Rhode Island just last week. He can’t see clearly and this causes a lot of problem. Now, in order to help this poor turkey the couple needs to raise enough money for its surgery. $2,600 is indeed a lot of money for a poor old turkey but for the couple, it’s well worth it so they could help out their rescued animal.

Let us just hope this is not a hoax of some kind just so they could scam good Samaritans and fellow animal lovers of their money. But, for many Craigslist readers, it is still best to get a guarantee first before you start donating some money. After all, it’s not that hard to make up a story and post it online.

Unborn child up for adoption on Craigslist

In Washington, the police are investigating a Craigslist ad that was posted by a 5 month pregnant mother who wanted to give up her baby for adoption as long as the adoptive parents would pay for his medical expenses. The police are investigating the validity of the said post and want to help out the mother so she could find adoptive parents legally.

Raymond Bunk, a spokesman for the police of Federal Way said that they could help her do it legally. There is a legal way to do it and maybe she is just ignorant of our law so they want to point her to the right direction. In Washington, the law states that adoption advertisements are only conducted by the Social and Health Services and other agencies that are licensed. It is also legal to get an independent adoption.

If the ad is real and the pregnant woman will cooperate, she will surely find the right adoptive parents for her child. It is very dangerous to find an adoptive parent through a personal ad because you never know who will be responding to the ad.

2010 Winter Olympics tickets

The ticket sales for the third phase of the 2010 Winter Olympics had been released last Saturday and it was quickly sold out. There had been a long wait for the said tickets as there was a computer glitch that made a week’s worth of delay. The tickets were sold virtually and many people were not happy with the long wait online to get the sought after tickets.

This was the third and final round of ticket sales for the said Olympic Games and the organizers believe that very few of the said tickets would still be available for purchase in the future and most likely, these tickets can be available through re-sales with higher prices.

The Olympic organizers discourage the purchase of tickets through Craigslist and other websites as it can be very risky. You are not for sure if those ads are for real tickets and not just to rip you off of your money. The tickets that are sold may not be legitimate and you’ll only find out about it during the game when you’re not allowed to enter. Still, it’s all up to the fans if they want to take the risk. They are also trying to come up with a site where re-selling of tickets would be done and tickets are verified to be legitimate. This way, sellers can sell at higher rates if they want and buyers know they are getting the real thing.

Craigslist on Blackberry smartphones!

Blackberry users and Craigslist lovers rejoice! Now, your Blackberry smartphone can have the Craigslist application. The Craigslist application is called Craigslist Mobile and was created by Movela, the same makers for the Netflix Queue Manager. The Craigslist Mobile application makes you feel like you’re browsing Craigslist with a PC via your Blackberry phone. All the basic features on the full site are there and you can browse through site listings and make a reply easily thanks to their UI or their Intuitive user Interface.

For Blackberry users with the Movela Netflix Queue Manager application, for sure you won’t find it hard to recognize the new Criagslist Mobile UI application as they are quite similar to the Netflix application too. Their One-click access makes it easier to browse through all the Craigslist listings that you want to check whether it’s for housing, for sale, jobs, community and others. You can even swap between cities listings too and it’s really easy to use.

If you want to post a new listing on the Craigslist website, you will be directed to the Craigslist mobile site where you are required to log in to your account. That is still being worked on and the Craigslist application can’t let you post new listings yet but the redirecting to the Craigslist mobile site is not a bad alternative. This new Craigslist application still waits for the RIM approval and when it gets approved, it can be available for the market and may be priced at $4.99.

Shooting as result of a Craigslist transaction

According to KSAT of San Antonio, there was an arranged transaction through Craigslist that led to a shoot-out. A 21 year old guy was shot by a 37 year old and claimed that the 21 year old was attempting to rob him.

Maymi Russell, the 37 year old, posted an ad on Craigslist selling his camera. The buyer was Sammy Villa. Maymi did a bit of research on the buyer through Facebook.com. When Maymi went to the point of meeting, at the back of IHOP last Monday, he saw a guy who motioned to Rusell for the transaction to be finished. Then, Maymi Russell noticed two more men approaching him and they started demanding for the camera from him. Russell, didn’t meet them without any form of defense, he took his licensed gun and shot Sammy Villa. The two men who accompanied Sammy were John and Cameron McFarland. They fled the scene after the shooting but were later arrested and the 3 of them had been charged for aggravated robbery.

Maymi Russell saved his life by being aware of what’s going on in his surroundings. The police still said that he could have met with the men in a safer place where there are lots of people around. By doing so, you can easily find witnesses just in case you’ll be robbed.

Wanna hire a thug?

In Craigslist, you can practically find any thing you have in mind. People post ads of the weirdest things there such as this one ad from a so-called “real thug”. The ad was posted with the title, “Hire a real thug to counsel your troubled teen (Williamstown, NJ)” and was posted on the Craigslist for New Jersey.

The man who posted the ad claimed that he spent 17 years in prison and has now reverted his ways. He is now offering his service to help teens that are going a troubled path. If the parent will let him, he will show the teens what his path will end up like and will show the teens the real world. It sounded like an ad worth taking if you have a kid that is giving you lotsa headaches. In fact, the poster didn’t even mention about his rate… But, would you give this guy a chance to even go near your kid and stay in your house? You may end up getting looted by this “good Samaritan” ex-convict who happens to be quite eloquent.

Cubans deprived of free market sites?

revolicoCuba is a communist island and it was just recently that they got a taste of freedom through free market from the popular website that is similar to Craigslist. Unfortunately, the communist island had blocked the site from being accessed in Cuba.

The said site is Revolico.com and Cubans noticed lately that when they enter the site, they get redirected to Google. When they search for the name through Google and click on the link, they still get redirected back.

Computer experts in Cuba said that there is a content filter that is used to prevent the access to the site Revolico.com. The site became very popular, with millions of page views every month and in an island with the economy being tightly controlled, this raised an eyebrow to their government. The consumer goods in Cuba are quite expensive and with the free market around, they can no longer control the price and cheaper rates would become available.

Revolico.com allows Cubans to buy and sell items that are not controlled by the monopoly of their government. Whether or not the government is blocking the site is still unclear and unproven but it was reported that in the past, the authorities of Cuba had sent out reports of prohibit access to the said site.

Though the site is being blocked, people can still find a way to bypass the filter and tips on how to bypass the filter circulates via email to Cubans.

Craigslist Scam Alert

Craigslist is a popular site that makes it easier for people to advertise their goods and/or services. But, whenever you deal with someone through a transaction and you never see their faces, you got to be on your toes and check for red flags in all your transactions.

One woman from Lawrenceville posted an ad on Craigslist for apartments for rent and in one day, she got dozens of responses. She also received checks for amounts higher than the actual price and she receives an email asking her to wire transfer the difference. This is a big red flag and this type of scam is already overused and still, some people get scammed over and over again.

Everybody should be warned about this and they should check the authenticity of the checks that they receive. Whenever someone sends you a check with amount higher than your price and asks you to send back the over amount via wire transfer, you should avoid it.
