Woman using Craigslist to fight against crime

A woman from Inver Grove Heights decided to use Craigslist as well as other social networking websites to help fight against crime when she became a victim herself.

The woman’s name is Meghan Abston and she had lost credit cards and clothes as well as a camera that was kept in her car. She got no clue who stole all her items but thankfully, the apartment had a surveillance camera and caught the culprits on video .

In the video she saw 2 men taking all her stuff from her car and she reported the incident to the police officers in the area. She felt so helpless and can’t stop crying but then she realized she can and should do something to help catch these robbers and prevent others from being victimized.

The surveillance video was very helpful and she posted the video on Craigslist, Twitter, Facebook and Myspace hoping that someone could identify them and help solve the crime. There’s no use yet up to now if the method is effective on her case but she believes it’s a way to help solve the crime and not just wait for the police to solve it. The police officers investigating the crime, on the other hand, don’t want to discuss about her style to solve the crime.

Meghan Abston is also posting a $500 reward for anyone that could help her identify and catch these robbers.

Father and son looking to buy car on Craigslist got robbed

The duo, a father and his son, who was looking for a great car purchase on Craigslist ended up getting robbed on gunpoint on a Friday night in Charlotte when they met up with the people who claimed to have posted the ad on Craigslist to sell a car.

Thankfully, no one got hurt during the robbery that was set in a parking lot. The victim had set up a date and time for the meet up with the sellers to check out their Ford Crown Victoria that was posted on Craigslist. Instead of checking out the car, they ended up getting robbed when one of the suspects pointed a gun straight to the father’s head and demands for the money that was supposed to be the payment for the car. They then jumped into the supposed-to-be car for sale and left with the money.

The police did not reveal any information about the robbers nor with the amount of money that was stolen from the victims.

Flat-Screen In, the rest are out

There are lots of posts on Craigslist for perfectly working TV’s at really cheap price that doesn’t get any response from buyers. This is practically because we’re all in search of flat-screen TVs and Cathode-Ray tubes are simply forgotten.

Many ads on Craigslist are of really amazingly low prices and are relatively quite now for their prices to go down like that but it’s like selling a television from the Jurassic period at this high definition era. It’s amazing how nobody wants to get an amazing bargain simply because the TV is not flat just like the rest of the newest TVs on racks.

Even during recession, Americans still want the latest in gadgets and electronics even if they are a bit too expensive with alternatives at really low rates. With everybody anxiously waiting for their next purchase of their flat-screen TVs, the number of perfect condition bulky TVs are either being posted on Craigslist and other sites or are simply kept in garages and will never be used again.

It’s sad to see these good ol’ TV being left in the dark and are simply discarded but it will surely take the same route as the old non-colored cellphones.

Couple charged with fraud – Once posted ad on Craigslist to sell baby

In Canada, a couple from Vancouver posted an ad last year to sell their baby for $10,000. They were not charged for the said ad because they claimed that it was just a sick joke. Pete and Granholm admitted on posting the ads but that Pete was just joking when he posted the ad to sell their week-old baby. Now, that may seem to be just an alibi as they had previous cases of theft and obstruction charges as well as fraud which they claimed to be a thing of the past.

The couple has been charged with fraud for their involvement in the credit card stealing group that involves 5 other people. The 7 people had made a spending spree from June 8 to July 16 amounting to $80,000 with purchases such as electronics, tickets and even a limousine ride.

The couple had been on the headlines last year for their “sick joke” ad but are now in the news again and this time, they can’t make any “sick joke” alibis with the charges against them.

Craigslist on top 50 most popular retail sites online

Last Monday, the Stores Magazine had released the list of the popular retail stores online and it’s the very first time that the Craigslist website was part of the top 50.

The poll is based on a survey where they ask 8,600 customers to elect the e-commerce stores that they prefer. The survey was not a multiple choice type but the 8,600 customers were to put the sites that came to their mind.

For the very first time out of the 3 years of the said poll, Craigslist was included and it’s on #25 out of 50. Not bad for a site that does not advertise itself and did not spend any amount of money to advertise their website.

For Craigslist to be among the top 50 retail sites online means that they come to mind often now. Not shocking now since Craigslist have over 50 million unique visitors last July and continues to get a higher number of visitors through the months and years that it’s been online.

Craigslist is gaining more grounds now especially with the bargain-hunting individuals who wants to look around for bargains and 2nd hand goods that are good enough for a purchase.

Kidney search on Craigslist

When you are at the brink of death and you need to find ways to stay alive, would you go and do the most desperate things just to find the answer to your needs?

A South Arizonian woman did just that. She is in desperate need to get a 2nd chance at life by finding the right kidney for her transplant but there was no luck. She was not able to find a kidney that matches hers and so she went to find one through the online site that is popular for buying and selling goods, Craigslist.

Diane White, a 49 year old woman from Arizona, started searching for kidney donors in Craigslist and she was shocked with the number of ads posted there by kidney donors as well as hearts and liver donors.

But, Diane White has very few options and that is to either look for a kidney donor from her own family and hope that it will match hers or she should be on the national list for kidneys together with thousands and thousands of patients who are also waiting for their much awaited kidney. While waiting, she should have regular dialysis to cleanse away the harmful toxins that needs to be removed through a machine as the kidney can no longer do the job.

Although Craigslist has ads for donors, it is still illegal to purchase body organs in the country.

Man tries to sell parents on Craigslist – Just a joke

To those who may have read his ad, you may have giggled or burst in laughter as this 51 year old man who is bored out of his wits decided to sell his parents for $155. Nope, not $300, not $200 but just $155 for the both of them. Just hoping that Michael Amatrudo’s parents found the ads funny or else it could get really awful for these 3 people.

Well, perhaps they won’t get mad at their 51 year old son for trying to sell them. After all, it’s just a joke and he didn’t make them look like bad parents but really great ones… He just wants a newer model of some hot and younger parents perhaps for a trade price of just $155.

Michael Amatrudo’s ad was posted as a poem stating that he got a lot of use of his parents for over 50 years and it is time for him to move on. He is willing to trade them for a hot blonde that is 10 years younger than him. As shocking as it may be but he got good responses too. No, they were not interested to buy his parents but they sent some remarks to him saying that having really great parents is very rare. Stating perhaps that he should be thankful for the kind and wonderful parents that he already have.

If you were Michael’s parents, would you get offended or would you start to laugh upon learning about the ad putting you for sale?

Craigslist now in Kenya

Craigslist, the largest online classified ads had just reached new heights and connects with the people in Africa, starting with Kenya. Craigslist had just recently launch a new Craigslist page for the people of Kenya. That means that Craigslist is in more than 500 cities in the world and Kenya is the 2nd region in Africa to get a Craigslist page. The first African region that has a Craigslist page is South Africa.

In Kenya, the internet connection is not a necessity but a luxury. With such high prices for bandwidth on a poor country makes it hard for the Kenyans to enjoy the benefits of the internet. With Craigslist being a very simple and easy website that is not heavy on bandwidth, it is just perfect for Kenya.

In most regions of Africa, the language barrier is the problem that does not connect them from the world through the internet. If Craigslist setup a region specific site it would get even more popular in Kenya.

In Africa, there is a big difference in West Africa and East Africa. West Africa does not have much commerce going on which is why such giants as Ebay and Amazon did not set foot here. There are still a lot of questions about setting up online websites catering to the locals in Kenya, Uganda and other similar regions. The question really is, would it be accepted there?

Craigslist founder on transit?

Craig Newmark, the founder of Craigslist, the multi-millionaire guy that we should all thank for his brilliant idea of putting up Craigslist is actually traveling around San Francisco on Muni.

Just last Wednesday, Craig Newmark was spotted with his goatee and a beret at the downtown area’s San Francisco Embarcadero Station. This multi-millionaire guy who can afford the most expensive car to brag around with is actually using a smart card as he move around San Francisco. Craig Newmark seems to go unrecognized as he rides the Muni together with all the commuters there.

Newmark said that he usually take the Muni on his way to the small office of Craigslist in the neighborhood of Inner Sunset. He lives in Cole Valley so it’s a practical choice.

It’s a fun find indeed. How would you feel if you are riding the Muni and Craig Newmark is sitting right beside you? As popular as Craig Newmark is on the web, his face is not that well exposed to the world that most often he doesn’t get recognized. Who would possibly think that Craig Newmark is riding a transit anyway?

His website is built and loved for its simplicity and his lifestyle seems to be as simple as his website as well. He is simple and practical just like Craigslist.
